Project consisted of the demolition and installation of two separate mechanical penthouses and exterior ductwork. The existing Penthouses were constructed with the original Hospital and the equipment was outdated to today’s Hospital standards. The penthouses were utilized by the Owner to heat, cool, ventilate & humidify the facility’s Operating Rooms. Due to the critical usage of the spaces served by the penthouses all onsite work had to be performed during allocated work times (weekends and afterhours). The Operating Department of the Chambersburg Hospital never closed as a result of this project which made safety, cleanliness, noise and security essential.
SMC Scope of Work
SMC was involved with the project because of our ability to utilize our in house CAD Department to layout each penthouse in 3D. The Owner was able to visualize conflicts and make changes prior to fabrication/installation. SMC then prefabricated the various air distribution and humidification systems at our facility prior to working onsite. Once onsite SMC was involved in a time sensitive effort to demolish and install an entire mechanical penthouse in 20 hours. This enabled the ATC, Electrical and Piping contractor to complete their portion of the installation so the Operating Department could reopen for surgery at 6AM on Monday morning.
